The Salina Cruz-Zihuatanejo Highway
An exciting development for the region: a new super highway connecting Salina Cruz, Oaxaca to Zihuatanejo, Guerrero is officially in the works, with a staggering MX$173 billion investment earmarked to improve over 4,000 kilometers of roads across the country.
The highway upgrade project between Salina Cruz and Zihuatanejo covers 478 kilometers, with over half the distance to be modernized. The project is expected to take five years and create 84,822 jobs. This infrastructure improvement will make travel along the Pacific Coast even more accessible, connecting Saladita to other coastal gems like Puerto Escondido and Huatulco.
Quick Flight from Mexico City
For Mexico City residents, Saladita offers the perfect quick escape. The flight from CDMX to Zihuatanejo takes just 45 minutes, meaning you can leave the capital after work on Friday and be watching the sunset from Saladita's beach by evening. Multiple daily flights make weekend trips entirely flexible.
Planning Your Arrival
The best time to arrive in Saladita depends on what you're looking for. High season (November through April) brings consistent swells, dry weather, and the most services open. The waves are smaller, the beach is wider, and whales breach the shore! Low season (May through October) offers lush landscapes, fewer crowds, and warm water, though afternoon rains are common. Swells are larger and more consistent though that means the beach is also smaller, but the jungle landscape comes alive with flowing waterfalls and greenery.
Whether you're coming from California for the legendary longboard waves, from Mexico City for a quick reset, or from anywhere else drawn by the promise of coastal simplicity, the journey to Saladita is part of what makes it special.
